Orego-Stim for Calves

The Importance of Neonate Gut Health:

Gut health is vital in promoting optimal calf growth and enhancing lifetime performance.
Healthy calves make more visits to milk and concentrate feeders than diseased calves (Duthie et al., 2019).

Heavier calves at weaning, and those with a higher ADG from birth to weaning demonstrate a higher milk production during first lactation (Chester-Jones et al., 2017).

A greater ADG and bodyweight is also associated with improved fertility in heifers (Brickell et al., 2009).

Growth Performance of Calves Fed Orego-Stim

Results from a recent trial conducted by AFBI demonstrated that Orego-Stim is effective in supporting calf growth performance both pre and post-weaning. This may lead to increased milk yields in the first lactation, offering a potential ROI of 3:1.

Dairy calves, balanced for birth weight, were offered milk replacer (150 g/L) either without (Control) or with (Orego-Stim) oregano essential oil from 5 to 56 d of age (weaning). Bodyweight and visit numbers were recorded multiple times daily from 5 to 70 d of age.

Calves offered Orego-Stim in their milk:  Were 2 kg heavier at weaning.  Were 2.9 kg heavier at 70 days old.  Visited milk feeders more frequently.  Visited concentrate feeders more often (despite there being no Orego-Stim in the feed).
